United Nations Decolonization Working Group (UNDWG): From Colonial Structures to Collective Futures
Reimagining Global Governance Through a Decolonial Lens
The United Nations was founded on principles of peace, equality, and self-determination. Yet despite the end of formal colonial rule in much of the world, colonial legacies continue to shape the UN’s structures, decision-making processes, and global power relations.
Today, these legacies manifest in unequal representation, epistemic dominance, development paradigms rooted in paternalism, and governance systems that continue to marginalize Global South voices.
In response to these realities, and amid a rapidly shifting global political landscape, Youth Transforming Narratives launched the United Nations Decolonization Working Group (UNDWG).
